Pop the champagne, y’all — you’re engaged! You’re about to begin one of the most exciting seasons of your life, and I couldn’t be happier for you. But if you’re feeling unsure of where to start, you’re not alone. Planning a wedding is likely the biggest (and most detailed) event you’ll ever plan — but don’t worry, I’m here to help.
Here’s where to begin and how I can help you plan a romantic, elegant, and timeless wedding that’s everything you’ve dreamed of.
Step 1: Create Your Preliminary Guest List
Start by writing out a rough guest list. It doesn’t have to be final — this list simply gives you an idea of how many guests you’d like to invite. Your guest count will influence many parts of your planning, including your budget, venue size, and rental needs like tables, chairs, linens, and centerpieces. Before we can allocate funds, we need to know how many guests will be celebrating with you!
Step 2: Choose Your Priorities
Every couple has a unique vision for their wedding day. For some, it’s a show-stopping venue or breathtaking florals. For others, it’s incredible food, lively entertainment, or the perfect gown. With your fiancé, choose your top three or four priorities — the areas where you want to splurge. This ensures your budget reflects what matters most to you both.
Step 3: Build a Realistic Budget
Next, it’s time to talk numbers. Determine how much you and your fiancé are comfortable spending and then check if any family members would like to contribute. Once you have your total, break it down into categories like your venue, photographer, florist, caterer, DJ or band, officiant, stationery, and attire.
And don’t forget the smaller details — stamps, tastings, accessories, perfume, and beauty prep all add up. A detailed budget helps you stay organized and confident throughout the planning process.
Step 4: Decide on a Season
Before you fall in love with a venue or vendor, decide which season or month you’d like to get married in. Having a general timeframe (instead of a specific date) gives you more flexibility when booking your dream venue — especially during popular wedding months.
Step 5: Consider Hiring a Wedding Planner
If you’re already feeling overwhelmed, or if your schedule leaves little time for planning, a wedding planner can be one of the best investments you make.
At Southern Belle Weddings by Rebekah, I help brides plan with confidence and ease — from matching you with trusted vendors to creating a seamless, stress-free planning experience. Whether you’re looking for full planning, day-of coordination, or a la carte support, I’ll help you create a wedding that’s as graceful and heartfelt as your love story.

Step 6: Book Your Venue
Once you’ve decided whether to hire a planner, it’s time to start your venue search! Your venue will set the tone for your entire day — and once it’s booked, your wedding date is officially set!
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when venue hunting. While traditional venues can be beautiful, nontraditional spaces like estates, gardens, libraries, or museums can offer stunning backdrops (and sometimes more budget-friendly options).
After securing your venue, the next vendor to book is typically your photographer — since their calendars fill up quickly!
Let’s Make Your Dream Wedding a Reality
Planning your wedding doesn’t have to be stressful — it can be joyful, organized, and full of meaningful moments. I’d love to help you create a day that’s romantic, elegant, and timeless — just like your love story.
